Trivium commits to the Science Based Targets initiative

Trivium is getting serious about leading the way to a low carbon future. To validate this pledge, the company has put pen to paper and committed to The Science Based Targets initiative, putting Trivium on a clearly defined path to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement goals.

Trivium Packaging, a $2.7B global leader in infinitely recyclable and reusable metal packaging, affirms its long-term commitment to combat global climate change and make real impact. To achieve the most ambitious aim of the Paris Climate Agreement, and limit the global temperature rise to 1.5°C, Trivium has pledged to set science-based targets to help reach that ambition in the short- and long-term.

With sustainability as an integral part of its business, Trivium is taking science-backed steps to achieve its sustainability goals by joining the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) and signing an official commitment to set science-based emissions reduction targets along its value chain, in line with 1.5°C emissions scenarios and the criteria and recommendations of the Science Based Targets initiative.

But the impact of global climate change is at a critical point and we must do more to continue making a meaningful difference for our planet’s future. Together with ambitious goals, an actionable sustainability agenda, and dedication from our entire team, we will work across our supply chain to make a real difference.”

With strong momentum in sustainability improvements, Trivium recently launched a recycling program in Argentina, making the company the first in Latin America to use post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminum and have been implementing best sustainable practices which resulted in an A- CDP rating in two key categories: ‘Climate Change 2020’ and ‘Water Security 2020’.

“Signing up to the Science Based Targets initiative reflects our commitment to go from ambition to impact,” said Trivium Packaging VP Sustainability Jenny Wassenaar. “Our targets will minimize emissions throughout our value chain, reduce our energy, gas, and water consumption and manage our waste and VOC emissions. We will also develop eco-designed innovative products with increased recycled content, easier recyclability, and reduced packaging weight.”

What is the Science Based Targets initiative?

Science-based targets show companies how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to prevent the worst effects of climate change. Trivium is one of more than a thousand businesses around the world that are already working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

PAC Global and Worldstar awards for Trivium

Trivium Packaging was honored to receive an Award of Distinction in Package Innovation in the Technical Design category from PAC Global and a WorldStar Global Packaging award in the Alcoholic Beverages category for our work on AMBEV S.A. Budweiser’s limited edition 2022 World Cup aluminum beer bottles. Trivium Packaging worked closely with Budweiser to produce bottles that resonated with World Cup fans around the globe. The direct printing of the designs on the bottles created an item that was not only eye-catching but could be kept as a collector’s item.

Trivium Packaging has once again achieved Platinum status for the third year in a row

Trivium Packaging is proud to announce that it has retained its Platinum status for its third consecutive year, the highest ranking in the 2024 EcoVadis sustainability ratings. EcoVadis’ platinum award reflects demonstrated improvements and contributions towards sustainable growth in the past year, with high scores in the Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement categories, including a rating of “outstanding” in the Environment category.
