The 2020 Can of the Year awards, which would normally have been announced and presented at a well-attended annual summit, have just been published online. Despite the change, one element remained constant – Trivium Packaging’s success in several categories across a variety of food, drink and personal care products.
A gold medal was gained for the cutting edge tinplate end with easy peel aluminium membrane designed and produced by Trivium, together with Amcor and Kezzler for Royal Friesland Campina. The development featured an optimum programme for applying the foil with a unique QR code for each product onto an EasyPeel lid at the company’s state of the art nutrition plant in Hoogeveen in the Netherlands.
Trivium was also awarded silver for the 250ml impact-extruded aluminium bottle produced for the Washington, USA based Ste Michelle Wine Estates, Chateau Ste Michelle. The lightweight, single serve bottle stands-out in the growing market of non-traditional packaging in the wine industry. The elegantly designed wine bottle is a great technical achievement by the Trivium team in Youngstown, Ohio.
Grant Grieg, Marketing Director for Chateau Ste. Michelle commented, “We chose the 250-ml aluminum bottle format to appeal to consumers looking for convenience and smaller serving options. He adds, “The wine delivers the same quality winemaking our customers expect from Chateau Ste. Michelle in a package that is ideal for every occasion. These wines are your Chateau on-the-go.”
Adding to the medal haul were bronzes for the 7oz (207ml) impact-extruded aluminium can for Formulated Solutions, Cutter Foaming Hand Sanitiser, and the 10oz (296ml) impact-extruded aluminium bottle for Hand in Hand soap, produced at Trivium’s plant in Youngstown, Ohio as part of a project to convert personal care products into sustainable aluminium packaging.
The successful products demonstrate the widespread expertise across Trivium’s international operations.
Rob Huffman, Trivium’s Chief Growth Officer commented: “These awards represent our mission to deliver high quality, innovative, and sustainable packaging. There is no greater accomplishment than working closely with our partners to deliver packaging solutions that exceed expectations in protecting and promoting their brand.
“In 2021, when the Canmaker Summit is scheduled to take place from 6-7 October at the original location in Prague, we look forward to presenting in person the environmental, commercial and promotional benefits of metal packaging alongside our colleagues from throughout the world.”
